CASE STUDIES
With the creation of The Demeski Protocol, we provide our athletes with a more efficient rehabilitation and prevention process.
We can observe in the cases below the contribution that Protocol had in the rehabilitation and prevention of injuries of these Athletes:
Case 1 - Romulo Barral
Description of the injury:
He’s owner of the Gracie Barra Academy in Northridge, California and one of the best athlete in the Jiu Jitsu world. He suffered a complete tear of ligaments in his right ankle with an associated fracture, during a jiu-jitsu competition.
All doctors recommended surgery. We carried out our personalized evaluation protocol and discussed it together with the doctors who performed the conservative treatment with Demeski Protocol associated with specific exercises to assist in the rehabilitation process.
Protocol:
- Evaluate all the results of complementary exams (MRI, RX, Ultrasound…).
- Carry out the muscle and joint evaluation process (strength, resistance, mobility and balance).
- Map the affected muscles directly and after the injury.
- Diagnose pain points in the injured joint and associated areas.
- Diagnose the movements that the patient can do alone, evaluate passive movements and their range of motion.
- Definition of exercises, stretching and manipulative techniques that will be used in the phases: Acute, Subacute and Chronic of the injury (Specific for each type of injury).
- Beginning of work on Specific Joint Manipulation of the Demeski Protocol associated with specific exercises (refer back to my Section on Demeski Protocol Angle Therapy Method)
- Evaluation of the partial positive results will be measured every 2 weeks throughout the treatment, such as: strength, resistance, mobility, balance and sports gesture.
Typically this type of injury takes 8 to 12 weeks to complete the healing process. With the use of the Demeski Protocol Demeski, we can start the rehabilitation process on the 2nd day after the injury and in 5 weeks our athlete was already back to training. In 7 weeks we won our first title after the injury.
Case 2 - Luiz Panza
Description of the injury:
He’s from the Checkmatt Jiu Jitsu Team. He had a spiral fracture of the tibia and fibula bones in his right leg.
Here’s below his on report about the injury:
Abu Dhabi 2015, one of the most difficult moments of my life: a full break on my right leg with only 5sec left in the fight.
The few things I can remember were trying to raise my leg and my foot dropping, talking to my mom in the ambuance because wanted her to hear it from me rather anyone else, and lying on the surgery table.
I was shocked, when master @leovieirabjj told me, while I was going to the hospital, that I was going to come back even stronger. All the checkmat members that were there raised enough money to help me out with whatever came next!!
While that may seem hard, it was only the beginning.
My face in this picture shows the focus I had every single moment throughout this recovery. When I met an angel @gutodemeski, together we kept the fighter mentality, but the fight was different, a whole different type of battle every single day. The joy of every single step forward overcame any hardship, and the love I have for JIU-JITSU conquered any negative thoughts. I had This love is the same love I still wake up with everyday, with the same happiness, and with the commitment that it's what I'II do for the rest of my life.
My focus was always to be the best fighter I could be, but more importantly, to bring JIU-JITSU into people's lives, make them love this martial art and feel how amazing it can be in our routine!

Typically this type of injury takes a year or more to complete the healing process. With the use of the Demeski Protocol, we can start the rehabilitation process on the 2nd day after the injury and in 3 months our athlete was already back to controlled training. In 8 months we won a PanAmerican Jiu Jitsu Tournament, our first title after the injury.
